Funding is available towards the cost of music tuition, e.g. instrumental, vocal, conducting, song writing, arranging and composition. Award holders will be expected to contribute to College music life through full participation in the Somerville Music Society (SMS).
Eligibility
Enrolled undergraduates, whether reading Music or not, can apply for this funding. Students who are on suspension and visiting students are not eligible.
Award levels
£500 is available for music tuition. Award holders may also apply for up to £500 annually to enable them to organise music events for Somerville.
Selection process
Please complete the application form by 12 noon on Monday 19th October. Please note that your application will be shared with the Somerville Music Society.
Auditions will take place as part of the Freshers’ Concert in 3rd week. The Somerville Music Society will contact you directly about performing in the concert.
Alternatively, portfolio submissions should include one or two short examples of musicianship that cannot be demonstrated in the form of a live performance audition. Original compositions, arrangements, or evidence of conducting or music facilitation should be shared via a MP3 or MP4 sound/video file/recording. Wherever stylistically appropriate, portfolios should include some form of notated score. Portfolios must be uploaded to a shareable OneDrive folder with an unrestricted link sent to student.funding@some.ox.ac.uk by 12 noon on Wednesday of 21st October. If you are applying for funding for more than one area of musicianship, please submit separate applications.
