Funding and Opportunities

The Sports and Wellbeing Fund was established in 2019. Its purpose is:

• To support the activities of Somerville students across a wide variety of sports
• To promote physical activity
• To develop and support the wellbeing of the college community.

Students can apply for funding to support their membership and participation in University wide sports and teams.

Eligibility

Enrolled undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for this funding. Please note that the following students are not eligible:

• Students who are on suspension
• Visiting students
• Associate students
• Students who are on report or probation

Award levels

Up to £500. Priority will be given to applicants who have not received previous awards.

Application process

Please note that applications have now closed.

Students should complete the application form and email it to the Scholarships and Funding Officer with evidence of any estimated or actual costs. Undergraduates should note that their Personal Tutor might be asked to comment on the application.

Application deadline

For Trinity Term, applications must be received by 12 noon on Monday of minus 1st week (12th April).

Decisions

All applications will be acknowledged once the deadline has passed. Decisions are made by the Somerville College Travel and Special Project Grants Committee.

Reporting

Successful applicants will be expected to submit a brief report.

Students can apply for a 50% fee reimbursement for Fast Track courses at the Language Centre.

Please complete the Fast Track College Reimbursement form and return it the Scholarships and Funding Officer.

This award was created by Aaron Maniam (1998, PPE) and a group of his friends to honour college porter Pat Harris, who went out of her way to support and care for both them and many other students during their time at Somerville. 

It is awarded each year to two Somerville students (one from the JCR and one from the MCR) who, like Pat, exemplify the Spirit of the college: depth of character, kindness, and a regard for the welfare of others.

It is one of the few awards at any college in the university not awarded for academic achievement or a project proposal. Decisions are made in Trinity Term each year by a panel, which includes the JCR and MCR Presidents.
