Freed from orthodoxy and inspired by the liberal values of Somerville, our Choir is free to choose a uniquely diverse repertoire.

Always eclectic, the music sung by the Somerville College Choir balances Anglican choral works with secular music and works by female composers and People of Colour. The Choir itself meets twice weekly, rehearsing on Thursdays prior to its weekly performance in the Sunday Choral Contemplation that comprises its main duty.

Led by our Director of Chapel Music, the celebrated vocalist Will Dawes, the Choir has found its weekly performances in Choral Contemplations to be the ideal forum for rehearsing rehearse smaller pieces as well as large-scale works such as Bach’s St John Passion and Mozart’s Requiem. Such pieces have often found their way onto albums released by the Choir and live performances delivered on tour and in major concert venues around the country.
