With the climate crisis worsening, we are working hard to secure our ambition of achieving net-zero emissions as soon as possible.

Environmental Sustainability is embedded in our processes as a College, supported in our teaching and research, and integral to Our Community’s commitment to social responsibility. We are already making progress on multiple fronts, and have committed to a goal of 2035 by which to go fully carbon-neutral.

In Trinity 2022, Somerville College participated in a biodiversity audit led by our Sustainability Officer, DPhil candidate Adriana Mordente, and ratified by the Conference of Colleges. You can read the report below, which includes detailed analyses of carbon sequestration and storage, landcover and varieties of insects, birds and earthworms within the Somerville estate.

We are also doing important work across infrastructure adaptation, energy saving, travel and food, which you can read about below.
