Funding is available from Somerville towards the cost of course-related activity such as medical electives.

All enrolled Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (BMBCH) students can apply. Students who are on suspension are not eligible.
Applicants should be in need of financial support for travel or projects relating to their studies. They should ensure that they also apply to other funding sources such as department travel grants.
For Michaelmas Term applications, the planned travel or project must start after Wednesday 3rd November. It is not possible to be considered for retrospective funding unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Up to £1,250 over the length of the course. In exceptional circumstances, it is possible to make awards above this level.
Applications are accepted four times a year. Applications will close at 12 noon on Monday 18th October 2021 (2nd week).
Students should complete the application form and email it to the Scholarships and Funding Officer with any evidence of estimated or actual costs. Applications will be forwarded to Personal Tutors for their comments.
There are four application deadlines for BMBCH students:
- Michaelmas Term: 12 noon on Monday 18th October 2021 (2nd week)
- Hilary Term: 12 noon on Monday 24th January 2022 (2nd week)
- Trinity Term: 12 noon on Monday 11th April 2022 (minus 1st week)
- Trinity Term: 12 noon on Monday 30th May 2022 (6th week)
Decisions are made by the Somerville College Travel and Special Project Grants Committee.
Successful applicants will be expected to submit a brief report after the completion of their project.
