Grants are available from Somerville to help graduates in their first, second or third year with the cost of materials and equipment related to their course.


All enrolled graduates in the first, second or third year of their course can apply for this funding. This includes BMBCH (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) students in any year. Students who are on suspension and visiting and associate students are not eligible. Undergraduates, including Preclinical Medicine students, should apply for Undergraduate Grants for Course Materials. Students can only claim for purchases made between 1st October and 30th September in the current academic year. 

Award levels

Students can claim up to £100 in each academic year (£50 for part-time students). If purchases total more than this amount, students will be reimbursed for the first £100 (£50 for part-time students). It is possible to make multiple applications of smaller amounts. Unclaimed grants cannot be carried over into the next academic year.

Application process

Please complete the application form and attach evidence of your purchases. The deadline for claims is either 30th September or your course completion date, whichever is sooner.

The award will be placed on your battels account and then paid into your UK bank account. Please note that the award will offset any existing battels account debits before the balance is paid.
