Funding is available from Somerville to enable undergraduates studying English to attend performances of Shakespeare. These awards have been made possible through a generous legacy donation from Professor Katherine Duncan-Jones (1941-2022) who was a Senior Research Fellow at Somerville.
Eligibility
All enrolled undergraduates on the following courses can apply for this funding. Students who are on suspension are not eligible.
- BA English Language and Literature
- BA Classics and English
- BA English and Modern Languages
- BA History and English
Award levels
Students can claim up to £100 per year towards the cost of attending a performance of Shakespeare at the Royal Shakespeare Company or in London. Performances need to take place between 1st October 2025 and 30th September 2026 or the course completion date, whichever is sooner.
Application process
Please complete the application form and include evidence of the actual or estimated costs. Payment will be made in advance of the performance and based on the costs provided in the application.
Reporting
Successful applicants will be expected to submit a brief report outlining how they have used the award.
