The Annual Fund
The Annual Fund provides a vital source of income to Somerville, making a direct impact to our current undergraduates and graduates at College.
The Annual Fund supports a variety of key areas, including:
We believe that no student should be deterred from applying to Somerville for financial reasons. In 2013-2014, 85 (21%) of our undergraduates received a bursary, making Somerville one of the top colleges for student support.
Support from the Annual Fund enables Somerville to provide a range of bursaries to those who need them.
‘The Bursary truly has allowed me to enjoy Oxford, for which I can only be appreciative’ Cameron Fern (Mathematics, 2014)
Teaching support and the tutorial system
The tutorial system is the hallmark of an Oxford education. The Annual Fund provides essential support to protect this brilliant, but costly, form of learning, ensuring that our students continue to have access to world-leading academics in their field.
Heritage and Environment
Every year we need to maintain and improve the College’s buildings and grounds in order to preserve the fabric of Somerville whilst providing much-needed facilities. The Annual Fund has supported a number of exciting developments including the conversion of Penrose loft into student accommodation; the refurbishment of kitchens and bathrooms in DHQ; and the new Terrace Bar.
Areas of Greatest Need
The Annual Fund ensures that the College can act swiftly and efficiently to address unexpected needs and our core activities. The support from the Fund ensures that future generations of Somervillians can continue to enjoy the same opportunities as those before them.
