Starting this week, Somerville College has joined three other other university departments in a new pilot scheme to trial the use of asymptomatic Lateral Flow Testing.

The trial, which began on Wednesday 3rd February and will last for three weeks, will seek to establish the validity of extending Lateral Flow Testing to all staff of the university. Lateral Flow Testing is already available to all students who are required to be resident in their colleges, and extending testing to staff represents a potentially significant method for limiting the spread of the virus.

The scheme will only be available to members of college staff who are routinely based in College for their work, of which there are currently around 60 at Somerville, most of whom are support staff. Participants will register to take part via the Early Alert Service, and will then take two LFTs per work, three days apart.

As the sole college represented in the trial, Somerville College is proud to contribute to this important research and grateful to our Principal and Treasurer for coordinating that involvement.
