Every year, the telethon enables us to catch up with old friends, share our news, and raise vital funds for Somerville students and academics.

Did you know that students’ fees only cover half the costs of their degrees?

Alumni generosity is fundamental to ensuring students continue to learn from leading academics and each year the Telethon enables us to raise the necessary funds to sustain the world-class tutorial system which makes an Oxbridge education so unique. The Telethon also provides us with a brilliant opportunity to update you on College life, invite you back for exciting upcoming events, and hear your news! Our students are very much looking forward to connecting and are always fascinated by the multitude of paths Somervillians take after College.

From our flourishing Sanctuary Scholarships, to sustainability work reducing our  becoming a University College of Sanctuary, we have lots to update you on! We will be asking for your support to help us continue to:

  • offer bursaries to 1 in 5 students
  • provide world-class teaching via the tutorial system
  • maintain and improve our College environment with a sustainable focus
  • continue to support students from displaced backgrounds via the Sanctuary Fund
  • preserve our thriving interdisciplinary academic environment by endowing our academic posts

You can read more about the College’s current fundraising priorities here and we hope you will consider making a regular contribution to Somerville, enabling our students and academics to flourish and furthering the College’s mission to include the excluded.

To help you and our student callers get the most out of your conversations, calls will be monitored carefully. Our students are really looking forward to speaking to you, and we hope you enjoy your call!
