On Saturday 19th July, Somervillians are invited to join us in Edinburgh. We will meet at 12pm with Ruth Boreham, who will guide us through Scotland’s capital showing us the city’s alternative – female – history. An Edinburgh resident, experienced tour guide, and fount of local knowledge, Ruth is currently researching a biography of Mary Somerville and we are delighted she has found time to share her expertise with us. The tour will last 2 hours, beginning by the Compass in the Meadows, and heading to Old Town through the university. There will not be a lot of steps, but do contact Jackie Watson (jacqueline.watson@some.ox.ac.uk) if you are concerned.
At 2pm, we will have afternoon tea in the hall of St Columba’s by the Castle episcopalian church. Those who are not able to join for the walk can join the others at this point. The event will finish by 4pm.
We have a limited number of places available, so please book quickly. We are keen to meet with as many Scottish Somervillians as possible, so this event is free.
We would like to set up an informal network of Scottish alumni, and more information will be sent to those who book. If you are not able to join us on 19 July, but are interested in being put in touch with other Somervillians, please email Jackie (jacqueline.watson@some.oc.ac.uk) and she will put you in contact with the group’s chair, Kitty Wheater (2006 History).
