We are excited to share with you an invitation to the launch event on Friday 17th October 2025 of a new archive that will reside at Somerville College.
The archive of The Council of Women World Leaders is an important resource documenting the evolution of the world’s only organisation dedicated solely to elevating the experiences and insights of women heads of state and government. Established in 1996, the Council’s mission is to promote good governance, enhance the experience of democracy, and increase the visibility of women who lead at the highest levels.
The Archive held at Somerville is based on the many meetings and interviews held by Laura Liswood, founder of the Council and a trailblazing lawyer who has spent decades bringing together presidents and prime ministers to champion women’s voices on the global stage. The occasion will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Margaret Thatcher, the UK’s first woman prime minister and a global leader of lasting renown. At this special event, Laura Liswood and Somerville Principal Catherine Royle will reflect on the history and future of women’s leadership, and celebrate the preservation of these important archives at Somerville.
