The e-Somervillian
Hilary Term
Happy new year! It is a pleasure, as always, to celebrate the successes of Somervillians, and there are many to enjoy. From politics to industry, from charity to law: Somerville is making its mark. Read about just some of our latest news and alumni achievements below, and see more Somerville news here.
In her new year diary post, Principal Jan Royall reflects on the history and future of Somerville’s drive to change the world for the better. This is the hundredth anniversary year of the achievement of women’s suffrage and Somerville was a powerful engine of this change. We are planning an exciting and diverse programme of events to mark the anniversary. Watch our website for more details soon.
We would love to see as many of you as possible at the events we will be holding in the coming months. See the sidebar for details and for links to sign up. Join us in Edinburgh on 25 January, in London with Hilary Spurling on 6 February, for our Medics’ Day on 3 March, at our Winter Meeting on 10 March, and in London with Peter Bazalgette on 22 March. Our 1987 and 1977 Reunions will be held on 17 March and 14 April. If you live or are travelling further afield, we would be delighted to see you at our Rome weekend 16-18 March, in New York on 4 April, in San Francisco on 7 April or at our German/Swiss gathering on 5 May.
If you have recently received an award or honour, or have news you would like to report please do not hesitate to contact us.
And finally: If the new year has you thinking about new directions, do remember both Somerville’s e-mentoring service and the Oxford University Careers Service.
