Somerville College and the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development have announced the appointment of Dr Radhika Khosla as the Centre’s new Research Director.

Dr Khosla is an environmental scientist by training, whose work focuses on the linkages between energy and climate change in rapidly urbanizing environments. She has worked in India and the US, including at the Centre for Policy Research in New Delhi, the MIT Energy Initiative, and the Natural Resources Defense Council in New York.  Dr Khosla also takes up the role of Senior Researcher at the Smith School of Enterprise and Environment, School of Geography and the Environment, at the University of Oxford.

Dr Khosla holds a PhD in the Geophysical Sciences from the University of Chicago and undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Physics from the University of Oxford.

 

 

 

Somerville’s Principal, Baroness Royall of Blaisdon, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Dr Radhika Khosla to Somerville and the key post of Research Director of the Oxford India Centre.  Radhika has already been associated with the Centre for some years and her research is of vital importance to India and the wider world.”

Dr Vivek Nanda, the Oxford India Centre’s Executive Director, said:

“Radhika’s appointment adds a new strand of academic expertise to the Centre and strengthens further our contribution to work on energy and on urbanization.  Given her excellent track record, Radhika is uniquely placed to extend collaborations between Oxford and India and to forge new partnerships for the Centre.”

Dr Khosla said:

“Having been associated with the Centre since the beginning, I am very pleased to have the opportunity to build and strengthen its research, community of scholars and ties with institutions in India and other countries.”

Based at Somerville College, the Oxford India Centre provides scholarships for exceptional students from India, carries out research on sustainable development and brings together experts from India and the UK to tackle challenges facing the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
