Somerville Association AGM and Spring Meeting

2pm on Saturday 14th March, 2020

We are looking forward to this year’s Somerville Association AGM and Spring Meeting (previously the “Winter Meeting”), which will take place on Saturday 14th March.

The AGM begins at 2:15pm in Flora Anderson Hall, and will include updates from the Principal, Baroness Jan Royall, and the President of the Somerville Association, Baroness Alison Wolf. The AGM is only for Somervillians.

The Spring Meeting begins at 2:45pm, also in Flora Anderson Hall. This year’s guest speaker will be doctor and television presenter Dr Xand van Tulleken (Physiological Sciences, 1996). Both Somervillians and non-Somervillians are welcome.

The AGM and Spring Meeting will be followed by tea, coffee, and biscuits in the Brittain-Williams Room (adjoining). The charge for the meeting is £15, or £10 for recent graduates (matriculation year 2011 or later).

In addition, a light luncheon (soup, sandwiches, fruit salad, and a glass of wine) is available before the meeting, from 1pm, in the Margaret Thatcher Centre. The charge for the luncheon is £15.

Xand van Tulleken has a diploma in Tropical Medicine, a Diploma in International Humanitarian Assistance and a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. He is a registered Doctor with the General Medical Council of the UK (without a licence to practice). Xand is a contributing editor to the first edition of the Oxford Handbook of Humanitarian Medicine and has worked for Doctors of the World, Merlin and the World Health Organization in humanitarian crises around the world.

Xand has presented numerous shows for the BBC and Channel 4 including: Operation Ouch, Blow Your Mind, Horizon, Secret Life of Twins, and Medicine Men Gone Wild.
