Everybody has questions, and you’re always welcome to bring any questions you have during your stay to our wonderfully helpful team of porters, based in the Lodge. However, there are a few questions that we often hear, which we can probably help you answer now via our helpful FAQs.

Can I do laundry and/or iron my clothes?

Guests are welcome to use the laundry room outside term-time, where you will find coin-operated washing machines and irons/ironing boards. 

What facilities are available in my room (TV, hairdryer, room service, universal plugs, etc.)?

We are unfortunately unable to provide hair dryers, but you are welcome to bring your own. A TV is available in the Terrace bar during opening hours. Unfortunately, we cannot provide universal plugs, but these are widely available from shops in the city centre, and we do not provide room service. 

Do you have a dry-cleaning service?

No, however a dry cleaner is situated approximately 300 yards north of the College in a small parade of shops in Woodstock Road.

Where is the nearest cycle/scooter hire?

Cycle hire is available from the Bainton Bikes, 78 Walton Street. They also provide guided and self-guided tours. Scooter hire is widely available throughout the city via smartphone app.

Where are the museums and shops?

There are a number of museums, the two largest being the Ashmolean museum in Beaumont Street and Pitt Rivers in Parks Road. The largest shopping area is the newly opened Westgate Shopping Centre, and Cornmarket is good for chemists, etc., while The Broad has very good book shops.

Where are the nearest doctor, dentist and chemist?

The nearest doctor is at Jericho Health Centre Oxford (website or tel. 01865 558861). The nearest emergency dentist is Bupa Dental Care at 22 Beaumont Street (website or tel. 01865 243702). The nearest chemist/pharmacy is Woodstock Road Pharmacy 59 Woodstock Road (website or tel. 01865 515226).

Where can I get a taxi?

There are a number of taxi firms in Oxford. 001 taxis (01865 240000) and A1 Taxis (01865 248000) are just two of them.

Where are the University Parks and what time do they close?

The University Parks are a short walk from the College in Parks Road. They open at 7.45 a.m. and close at various times in the year varying from 4.00 p.m. in the winter to 9.30 p.m. in the Summer.

Where can I catch the bus to the Park and Ride?

The nearest park and ride is Peartree park and ride which is accessible via bus 300. The bus stop is situated on the College side of the road 100 yards north outside the Maths Institute. The alternative is Redbridge Park and Ride which is also accessible by using the 300 bus, the stop for which is on the opposite side of the road to the Peartree bus.

Where can I park?

There is no parking in the College. There is parking at the park and ride car parks or the nearest pay and display being in St. Giles.

Where can I hire a punt?

Chauffeured and self-hire punts are available from the Magdalen Bridge Boathouse adjacent to Magdalen College (website). Punts and rowing boats are also available to hire from the Cherwell Boathouse (website).

Can I leave luggage in College?

There are no luggage storage facilities in the College. You may, however leave small items of luggage in the Lodge at your own risk.

What are the Lodge opening times?

The Lodge is staffed continuously between 0700 a.m. – 11.00 p.m. Between 11.00 p.m. and 7.00 a.m. there is a night porter.
