Shriman Sai Raman, a graduate scholar of Somerville College’s Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development, has received the Special Award for Community Action 2013-14 from ‘Green Impact’, a new student sustainability scheme run under the auspices of the National Union of Students.

Sai Raman helped to lead a team based at the School of Geography which seeks to promote sustainability within the department. Sai Raman received the award in recognition of the team’s success in improving sustainability in the usage of computers and photocopiers, and in recycling practices.

Sai Raman is one of three 2013-14 graduate scholars who arrived at the College this academic year to pursue interdisciplinary studies in the area of sustainability. Their presence at the College is part of an academic sustainability programme based around the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development.
