DatesSomerville Modern Languages finalist, Rebecca Heitlinger, is taking her comedy sketch show Dates to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. From Tudor Tinder to Let’s Pay Tribute to the Patriarchy, the sketches offer a feminist take on the trials and tribulations of dating in the modern age.

Rebecca wrote and directed the show with production company, Balagan Productions – made up of six actors, two co-producers, one sound and lighting manager and one designer, all of whom are students at Oxford University. Balagan Productions comprises a diverse bunch of linguists, chemists and graduate students, all united in their love of comedy.

‘After a sold-out run and positive reviews at the Burton Taylor Studio, we realised that our anarchic show would be perfect for the Edinburgh stage,’ says Rebecca. ‘Many of our cast and crew hope to pursue careers in the arts, from writing and performance to illustration and design. The experience of putting on a show in Edinburgh will be a springboard for future opportunities.’

The team have received partial funding from the MTST Development Awards at Somerville College and Queen’s College 650th Anniversary Trust fund, and have launched a crowdfunding campaign, ending tomorrow, to raise the remaining funds.
