We are thrilled that Somerville’s first cohort of Opportunity Oxford students have now joined us and begun their Oxford journeys.

Somerville became a new participating college in the scheme earlier in 2022 as part of its expansion to approximately 200 offers (from 100 in the 2020 intake). The academic programme aims to help talented students from under-represented backgrounds to make the jump from school to an Oxford education successfully by bridging the gap through online and residential academic work with Tutors. The scheme also gives students a preview of life as an Oxford student, which aims to boost their confidence when they arrive to start the term.

We hope that the programme is not just helpful, but enjoyable too. The pastoral and academic support on offer here will ensure that students continue to have all the resources to confront any bumps in the road on the way to thriving here.

To our new students: we are so proud of what you’ve achieved. We hope you know that you’ve earned your place here and truly deserve to be at Oxford.

And to our community: we hope you will all join us in wishing our new Somervillians a warm welcome!
