The Somerville Magazine 2015 has been published both in print and online and is now available in the Alumni section of the website.

The 2015 edition considers the lives and work of trailblazers past and present, from Mary Somerville and her tutee Ada Lovelace to alumni who have risen to the top of their respective fields of philosophy, science and business.

It also profiles the careers of two women who have recently broken new ground in becoming the first women to chair the UK operations of a major bank and accountancy firm respectively.

After the Principal and Director of Development made an inaugural trip to visit Asian alumni in Hong Kong in 2014, the College was pleased to profile three of our Hong Kong-based alumni in the Magazine.

At home

Back at Somerville, the College is extremely proud of an access venture in the West Midlands which our Senior Tutor has been part of since its establishment more than a decade ago – and which recently became the only project to win HEFCE funding which focused on a region with below-average Oxbridge access and involved an Oxford College. (HEFCE is the Higher Education Funding Council for England.)

The 2015 edition introduces a new ‘Student Spirit’ feature in which students reflect on the past twelve months at Somerville.

Two Somerville historians are the subject of ‘European Focus: Of Print and Princes’, which look at a research project and a recent exhibition held at the Bodleian.

We also note the great success of the 2014 Great War Roadshow with a feature from the College Librarian.
