cultural diversity fashion show headerAs part of Somerville College’s Equalities Week, our students organised a ‘Culture and Fashion Show’, inviting undergraduates from across the University to showcase their cultural roots.

In a video made for the Equalities Week crowdfunding campaign, Diversity Officer and first-year European and Middle Eastern Languages undergraduate Fis Noibi said, ‘there has been a lot of talk recently in Oxford about the lack of diversity. We feel that Equalities Week is the perfect way to continue this discussion as well as celebrating the diversity that we have here in College.’

Additionally, the JCR organised talks from Dr Emily Troscianko on anorexia at Oxford and Coach Sarah Jauncey, on empowering women in sport. Other events included a pub quiz, open mic night and a debate on the cultural appropriation. Throughout the week, students raised money for Parasol, a local Oxford charity that focuses on inclusive activities for disabled and disadvantaged children and young people who are at risk of social exclusion.

Please enjoy a selection of photographs from the event.
