Dr Franklyn Prochaska, member of the Senior Common Room of Somerville College, will speak at the Annual Public Meeting of the Charity Commission on 17 September.

The meeting, scheduled to take place at Church House in Westminster from 4pm to 6pm, will be chaired by William Shawcross, chairman of the Charity Commission.

Dr Prochaska will speak on ‘The State of Charity’.

Dr Prochaska is a former lecturer in British history at Yale University. His books include Royal Bounty: The Making of a Welfare Monarcy, The Republic of Britain: 1760 to the present, Women and Philanthropy in Nineteenth Century England and, most recently, The Memoirs of Walter Bagehot. Dr Prochaska is married to the College Principal.
