Warm congratulations to Somerville alumnus and current Lecturer in Medicine Dr Young Chan Kim on being awarded an MRC Impact Accelerator Account (IAA) Grant.
Dr Young Chan Kim, who previously received a Sir Henry Wellcome Fellowship and MRC HIC-VAC pump-priming grant as a PI in 2022, has been successful in securing the MRC’s prestigious Impact Accelerator Account (IAA) Grant for a research project on enteric fever. Young will be acting as Principal Investigator on the project, which will start in April 2023 for a duration of 18 months. The aim of the project is to develop a multiplex serological assay capable of detecting antibodies to typhoid and paratyphoid fever as a reliable diagnostic test to reduce overdiagnosis and over-use of antibiotics.
The MRC Impact Accelerator Account (IAA), which was formerly known as the ‘Confidence in Concept’ scheme, provides funding to institutions to support the earliest stages of translational research projects with the overall aim of accelerating the transition from discovery science into therapeutics, diagnostic and vaccine development.
Young is currently a Sir Henry Wellcome Fellow, a Lecturer in Clinical Medicine at Somerville College, a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) at Wolfson College and a doctor in internal medicine at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.
