It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dr Barbara Everett on Friday 4th April, 2025, aged 92.

A former Senior Research Fellow at Somerville, Dr Everett was an eminent literary critic and the writer of academic books and articles on subjects from Shakespeare to Auden and Barbara Pym. She was also an accomplished poet and a regular contributor to the literary media, notably the London Review of Books. Her LRB essays can be read here and their announcement of her death here.

We send our condolences to her family and friends, and to her former students and colleagues.
