The invasion of Ukraine has shocked the world. Somerville College stands in support with all members of our community who are affected by the appalling situation.

These are terrible, distressing times, particularly for those from Ukraine, Russia and surrounding countries who will be deeply concerned about their families and friends. Naturally we are ready to provide welfare and financial support to our students in need.

We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and those who support their sovereignty and rights, including the many thousands of Russian citizens who join the world in deploring their government’s actions.

We are proud of the work of our students in their activities to raise funds for those who are fleeing their homes.

If you want to do something practical, please donate to one of the international charities currently doing important work in the region, such as the International Rescue Committee’s Crisis in Ukraine appeal. The IRC is working on the ground with local partners in Poland and Ukraine, to quickly mobilise resources that will provide life-saving support to civilians forced to flee their home.

Update for Oxford residents: Common Ground on Little Clarendon Street is now collecting specific items for refugees, such as blankets. A full list of items can be found here.
