Event Start Date: 14 July 2022 18:00

Event End Date: 14 July 2022

Join us on Thursday 14th July for a recital of new works based on the writing of Julian of Norwich, performed by members of the Somerville College Choir, as the opening of the New Visions of Julian of Norwich conference.

The recently commissioned cycle of anthems is based on selections from Julian’s Revelations of Divine Love, and has been supported by the Friends of Julian and the Multitude of Voyces.

Members of Somerville College Choir, directed by Will Dawes, will perform four contemporary anthems by women composers, each based on a phrase of Julian’s text:

  • All shall be well, by Carol J. Jones
  • Our Endless Day, by Hilary Campbell
  • Love was his meaning, by Gemma McGregor
  • We seken here rest, by Judith Weir

Dr Alison Daniell (University of Southampton) and Louise Stewart (Multitude of Voyces) will introduce the anthems and their story.

This event is part of the New Visions of Julian of Norwich conference, whose co-hosts include Somerville’s Associate Professor Annie Sutherland, JRF Dr Godelinde Perk, and lecturer Dr Raphaela Rohrhofer. It is open to the public and free of charge. Registration is required: please register here.
