Event Start Date: 23 April 2023 14:10

Our Senior Research Fellow, the eminent Shakespearean scholar Professor Katherine Duncan-Jones, died on Sunday 16th October 2022. In recognition of the great affection and respect she commanded from generations of Somerville English students and the wider Somerville and academic community, we are holding a memorial service for her in college, beginning at 2:30pm in Chapel (entry from 2:10).

You are warmly invited to join us for tea in the Flora Anderson Hall after the service. All are welcome, and we especially hope to see as many of Katherine’s former students as possible.

We regret that we cannot offer parking unless for disabled attendees, but there is a regular bus service from Pear Tree Park & Ride with a stop very close to Somerville.

In order to help us with our arrangements, if you plan to attend, please register here.

Read tributes to Professor Duncan-Jones, including an obituary by alumna and Oxford’s Professor of Shakespeare Studies Emma Smith (1988, English)

The memorial will be streamed on the day of the memorial, and will also be available online to watch back at a later date. A copy of her memorial service booklet can be found here.
