2020 undergraduate freshers’ week and welcome events

Freshers’ week 2020

The week beginning Sunday 4th October is freshers’ week.  As you can imagine, this year Freshers’ week is going to look a little different to normal. A huge amount of work is being done by the JCR (Junior Common Room) to ensure that you have the most enjoyable and welcoming experience possible whilst remaining safe.

You will be allocated a registration appointment on Monday 5th or Tuesday 6th October, where you will register in person and receive your University card. You also will be given induction schedules for your academic and non-academic events.

A welcome pack of useful information will be waiting for you in your student bedroom.

Freshers’ Fair

Somerville JCR slot – Wednesday 7th October 14:30 – 15:00

This year, Oxford SU will be doing Freshers’ Fair a little differently. At our Virtual Freshers’ Fair, you will be able chat live to hundreds of student clubs, societies, and commercial stallholders. You will be able to engage with the virtual stalls by asking questions, filling goodie bags, and taking part video calls to make connections and get involved in what interests you.

If you are unable to attend during the allocated time slot, you don’t need to miss out on the Fair. It is open from 8am – 8pm, so there is plenty of time to log in and enjoy all it has to offer. You aren’t limited to the 30-minute timeslot either, so take as long as you like exploring the stalls after you’ve logged in.

Introduction to Somerville staff

Each year we introduce our new students to key members of college staff at a welcome session.

This year, those staff have recorded short clips which have been compiled into an online welcome video, which we hope will help you to remember who to get in touch with.

Bodleian Library welcome for new readers
