Somerville is located close to Oxford City Centre and beside the main University Offices.
On the west side of the College is the Jericho neighbourhood, which has an art house cinema and numerous cafés, restaurants and shops.
Oxford train station is fifteen minutes’ walk away by foot and the coach station just ten minutes. The Ashmolean Museum is a few minutes’ walk down St Giles’.
There are a number of places to buy food. Co-Op has a mini-supermarket on Walton Street, on the West side of the College. There are two further supermarkets further down St Giles’ on the west side – Tesco and Sainsbury’s. There are numerous restaurants, cafés, pubs and shops in Jericho to the West. For the city centre shops, head down to Cornmarket (10 minutes on foot) and the high street, which is to the left at the end of Cornmarket.
If you’re after some green space, you should head for the College quad! After that, the University Parks are barely five minutes’ walk east of Somerville’s front door and the extensive Port Meadow to the west is five or six minutes’ walk from the back of the College.
Some of the university’s most famous buildings lie to the southeast, including the Bodleian Library, Weston Library, Radcliffe Camera and Sheldonian Theatre (all 10-15 minutes’ walk away).
