Dr Andy S. Anker, a Junior Research Fellow at Somerville College, has been recognised as one of the world’s 30 most promising young scientists at the Inflection Award, the world’s first-ever award dedicated to celebrating early-career scientists working on solutions to climate change.

2025 Inflection Award winner, Paris, March 2025

Selected through a rigorous assessment process by a panel of 17 judges from world-leading institutions tackling the climate crisis, Dr Anker stood out among 500+ applicants for his groundbreaking research in integrating machine learning and robotics within a self-driving laboratory, with its implied potential to drive real-world impact.

All 30 awardees were brought to Paris for an exclusive two-day event, where they had a firsthand learning experience with some of the most influential figures in climate science, investment, and policy.

Dr Anker’s previous achievements include the Danscatt PhD Prize and recognition in Forbes 30 Under 30. Speaking about this new accolade, Dr Anker said: “I am honoured to have been selected for the Inflection Award and to spend two days in Paris with some of the brightest minds in climate science. From deep discussions on the future of climate technologies to late-night debates over some wine, this was a highlight of my academic journey.”

The Inflection Award is organized by Marble, Europe’s only deeptech venture studio exclusively focused on climate, and proudly supported by Breakthrough Energy Fellows and the Quadrature Climate Foundation. The 2025 cohort comprises PhD students and graduates from institutions including MIT, Oxford, ETH Zurich, Stanford, and others. Each awardee is working on cutting-edge solutions to climate change across diverse sectors, from chemical engineering to geosciences, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in climate innovation.
