Benjamin Freeborn (2020, BA Jurisprudence) has won the Stephanie Dalley Award to support his internship in Nairobi with the Global Development Incubator.

The GDI support social development ventures, both by identifying problems and creating their own initiatives or by supporting newly established sector experts and looking for opportunities to scale them with the support of backers.

Benjamin will be working with their ‘People on the Move’ initiative, which focuses on refugee and migrant issues. He has been involved in the field since 2020, when he volunteered at the Moria Camp in Lesvos, Greec through the NGO Movement On The Ground.

“I am so grateful to have received this award,” said Benjamin.

“It gives me an invaluable opportunity to further explore issues that I care about deeply while immersed in a setting that allows me to learn through experience.”

The Stephanie Dalley Award was created through the generosity of a Somervillian in honour of the renowned Assyriologist’s retirement. The fund awards up to £4000 to supports a Somervillian interning with a non-profit cultural or charitable organisation.
