Giovanbattista Califano
Non-Stipendiary Junior Research Fellow in Experimental Psychology
Dr Giovanbattista Califano is a Non-Stipendiary Junior Research Fellow at Somerville College.
He is also a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in the Crossmodal Research Laboratory, Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford. He was previously a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Naples Federico II, where he obtained his PhD in Food Science (Doctor Europaeus) in 2025. His research examines how consumers choose food and drink and how much they are willing to pay for them, combining methods from economics and psychology. His current main research interest is generative AI in the food domain, both as an object of study and as a research tool, from consumer responses to AI-generated food images to the use of large language models as synthetic respondents.
