Professor Phillips comes to Oxford from the University of Maryland, where he built an interdisciplinary research programme on the moment-by-moment processes involved in speaking and understanding. In addition to his primary research, Professor Phillips is a passionate evangelist for language science, in which capacity he founded the Maryland Language Science Center, a unique interdisciplinary hub that connected over 200 language scientists from fields as diverse as education and engineering.
