Alex Rogers, who is the Director of the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development, will be giving a lecture today in New Delhi.
It is the first of the Oxbridge Lecture Series held jointly by The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India and the British Council. Although the event is sold out, it will be streaming live online at 6pm IST and 2pm GMT.
In his lecture, ‘Digging Deep: Solutions from the Seabed and the Search for Sustainable Diets’, Alex Rogers will discuss the most recent developments of how we use resources from the sea and the land. He recently returned from a dive on the Central Indian Ridge, more than 10,000 feet underwater, and will discuss the newest discoveries relating to precious metals on the Indian Ocean floor and how life sustains itself in the darkest depths of the oceans.
Following Prof. Rogers, Dr. Alfred Gathorne-Hardy who is the OICSD’s Research Director, will explain why bringing together different actors in the food system, from co-operatives to multinationals and nutritionists to psychologists – create moments of breakthrough and understanding in the movement towards sustainable global nutrition.
The speakers will be introduced by Dr. Alice Prochaska.
