The Somerville College MCR will host a rededication event for its new digital baby grand piano in the Middle Common Room on Saturday 21st May.
The piano will be dedicated in memory of an alumnus of the MCR and keen musician, Rafa Baptista Ochoa, who completed his Masters at Somerville and very sadly took his life midway through his DPhil in 2017.
Alumni and members of the MCR and SCR are warmly invited to a semi-informal wine reception to be held in the Middle Common Room in Margery Fry House. This poignant occasion in memory of Rafa will feature reflections from the current MCR President, Isaac Walton, piano music from MCR members and semi-chorus choral music from the Somerville College Choir.
The new piano is a Roland GP607 Digital Baby Grand. Featuring the same dedicative plaque as the piano it replaces in the common room, it will enable music-making in the MCR to continue for a great many years to come.
