Mountain Tales looks at India’s dizzying growth, its rising inequality and widening social rifts through its biggest landfill — Mumbai’s Deonar Dumping Grounds. The author followed a teenaged waste picker Farzana for eight years, to chronicle the impact of overconsumption and legal and administrative delays on the lives of the most vulnerable people in the city. Through Farzana’s life — the book explores who is development for and what gives meaning to our modern lives. The author Saumya Roy will be in conversation with Keshava Guha, in this event cohosted by the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development and the Oxford India Society.
