As we welcome in the Year of the Rabbit, I want send you all my warmest wishes for a happy Lunar New Year.

The Year of the Rabbit is traditionally associated with prosperity, longevity and good fortune. Even better, I am told that pairing the rabbit with the element of wood means the coming year should be calmer and more balanced than the preceding Year of the Tiger – something for which I think we can all be grateful!

Here in Oxford, we can look forward to strong, steady progress in the year ahead. The university now has a new Vice-Chancellor, Irene Tracey, whose people-centred leadership will ensure Oxford remains a pinnacle of free-thinking and excellence. Our college stands poised to support these changes across everything from new buildings to new research.

As ever, our ability to make progress as a community depends on your positivity and support for one another as individuals. I would like to thank each of you, therefore, for everything that you do to make Somerville special, and wish you a year full of health, happiness and prosperity.

Jan Royall
Principal
