Vivien Parmentier is Associate Professor in Physics at the University of Oxford specializing in the atmospheric properties of extrasolar planets. He is Tutor of Physics at Somerville College.
After completing his PhD at the Observatory of the Cote D’Azur in Nice, France, he held a Sagan post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California, Santa Cruz and the University of Arizona, Tucson.
He studies the interactions between irradiation, chemistry, fluid dynamics and cloud formation in the atmosphere of extrasolar planets. He uses observations taken from the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes to determine the main physical mechanisms shaping the properties of these atmospheres.
