2020 arrival information for graduate students on other courses
Please read the following information about arriving at Somerville.
Arrivals for new students who do not need to quarantine will be from Monday 28th September and throughout that week. Those who do need to quarantine will be able to arrive from Monday 7th September.
At the start of September (when the booking system goes live) you will be invited to book a 90-minute arrival slot.
The new academic year officially starts on Sunday 11th October.
If you have been assigned a room in College accommodation, you will be emailed in August with details of your room allocation. The date you can move in will depend on the length of your course and the type of accommodation. Please email email@example.com with any queries.
Travelling to Somerville
A map showing the location of Somerville is available on the College website.
You will be able to park outside the college to unload onto trolleys. You will then collect your room keys from either the Lodge or a marquee in the quad inside the front entrance. There you will also be given a temporary access card until you can collect your University card during registration. You will be assigned a pigeon hole and have an opportunity to pick up any post.
The 90-minute slots are designed to give you flexibility in case you are running late, as it will not take you the full 90 minutes to unload your belongings. On the other hand, it is extremely important that you do not arrive early, as other groups will be arriving.
Parking and unloading
Please note that parking is limited within the College. If you have mobility difficulties and require parking, please request this at the earliest opportunity by emailing the Lodge Manager (firstname.lastname@example.org).
There are double yellow lines at the front of the College and parking there will be entirely at the driver’s own risk. There is Pay and Display parking on roads near the College, but this is limited. We therefore recommend parking at Pear Tree Park & Ride, which is north of Oxford. The Pear Tree Park & Ride bus stops are very close to the College’s main entrance on Woodstock Road.
You will need to come to the Academic Office in House 5 to complete the registration process and collect your University card. To do this you need to book a registration appointment.
In early September you will be invited to make an appointment to register in person with the Academic Office. Graduate registration will take place on Wednesday 30th September, Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd October although other dates and times will be possible with notice and good reason.
If you are unable to come to the office during the bookable hours you will be able to arrange an alternative time.
If you have a visa, please bring your passport so we can take scanned copies, you will be able to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).
