Somerville College seeks to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Linguistics, specialising in Syntax, with effect from 1st October 2022 to 30th September 2024. This appointment is to fulfil teaching needs arising from the need to replace Dr Louise Mycock while she is Director of Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics.

The successful candidate will teach General Linguistics and Syntax to undergraduate students in tutorials and classes as well as preparing, setting and marking written work and providing feedback to students. They will also give lectures under the direction of the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics and contribute to the teaching of Syntax to Master’s students. Candidates must have completed, or be about to complete (by 31st August 2022), a doctorate in Linguistics and be able to evidence the ability to teach Linguistics at undergraduate and graduate levels.

The successful candidate will have use of a shared teaching room in College, will be entitled to a free lunch each weekday during term, have membership of the Senior Common Room and be eligible to apply for support with research expenses.
