Arrival information for graduate students
If you are a graduate on a standard course, please read the following information about arriving at Somerville.
We would ask that you arrive at Somerville by Monday 3rd October for registration. Please note that your departmental induction programme might start earlier than this date so you should arrange to be in Oxford in time for whichever induction starts first. If you will not be living in College-owned accommodation, please use the ‘Date of Arrival Form’ to confirm when you will be arriving so we know when to expect you.
If you have requested a room in College-owned accommodation, you will be emailed in August with details of your room allocation. The date you can move in will depend on the length of your course and the type of accommodation. This information will also be confirmed in August. Please note that all graduates will definitely be able to move into their accommodation from Friday 30th September.
Travelling to Somerville
A map showing the location of Somerville is available on the College website.
When you arrive at the College, please report to the Porters’ Lodge, which is just inside the main entrance to the College on Woodstock Road. There you will be given your key(s), and told how to find your room if you will be living in College. Please check your pigeonhole and collect any post. If you arrive out of office hours, you will also be given a temporary access card until you can collect your University card from the Academic Office.
Parking and unloading
Please note that parking is limited within the College. If you have mobility difficulties and require parking, please request this at the earliest opportunity by emailing the Lodge Manager, Mark Ealey (firstname.lastname@example.org). There are double yellow lines in force at the front of the College and parking there will be entirely at the driver’s own risk. There is Pay and Display parking on roads near the College, but this may all be full when you arrive. We therefore recommend parking in the Pear Tree Park & Ride site, to the north of Oxford. The bus from this Park & Ride site stops almost opposite the front entrance of the College, and the bus to the Park & Ride site stops just a few metres from the College’s main entrance. Park & Ride information is available on the Park & Ride website. If you have any queries about parking or unloading, please email the Lodge Manager, Mark Ealey (email@example.com).
You will need to come to the Academic Office in House 5 to complete the registration process and collect your University card. Please bring your passport with you. We will be open for new student registration on the following dates:
- Monday 19th September to Friday 23rd September between 10.00 and 12.00 each day
- Monday 26th September to Friday 30th September between 10.00 and 12.00 each day
- Monday 3rd October between 10.00 and 12.00
Please note that we will not be able to register any graduates on Tuesday 4th October. This is because all the new undergraduates will be arriving on this date.
If you are unable to come to the office during those hours, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange an alternative time. If you have a visa, please bring your passport and Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) so we can take scanned copies. Please note that we cannot register you until you have collected your BRP. We recommend that you bring a number of passport-size photos of yourself, as you may need these for a variety of purposes in your first week or so in Oxford.
