Dr Laura Slater
Laura is a researcher on the ERC-funded project, ‘Music and Late Medieval European Courtly Cultures’ (http://www.malmecc.eu/). She is currently exploring the cultural patronage and courtly role/s of Queen Philippa of Hainault, looking particularly at the illuminated manuscripts associated with her and their unusual musical content. Her broader research interests centre on the relationships between art, ideas, power and politics in medieval Britain and Europe. She is also interested in medieval responses to antiquity and the Holy Land.
Laura has held postdoctoral teaching or research positions at the University of Cambridge, University College London, Trinity College Dublin and the University of York. She was also awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
