The 2015 Telethon ended on Sunday evening at 8pm, with another record breaking campaign for College.

Our generous alumni have provided Somerville with over £300,000 to contribute to our Annual Fund, which supports the core activities of the College, including bursary provision, maintaining our buildings and facilities and supporting the tutorial system.

The student callers have had a fantastic time, enjoying wonderful conversations with our alumni from all over the world and hearing about their lives at Somerville and since.

‘The Telethon has been a unique and rewarding experience. Talking to alumni showed me what Somerville was like in the past, whilst the money raised can help those in the future,’ said Niluka Kavanagh (English Language and Literature, 2013).

Around 56% of alumni and parents contacted chose to make a donation and letters will shortly be sent out to all those who we were not able to speak with during the Telethon, and so the total for the 2015 campaign may rise even further.

Student callers phoned over 800 people, with a high proportion of these giving regular gifts for the first time, which really does help the College plan ahead more effectively and with longer term goals in mind. ‘There has been a wonderful response from alumni and friends of the College, and it is truly heartening to see the support of the community, helping Somerville continue to provide crucial support to students’, said Heather Weightman, Annual Fund and Alumni Relations Officer.

Thanks to all Somervillians who continue to support the work of the College, which helps Somerville provide the best learning environment and opportunities for its students. A special thanks should also be given to the team of student callers who worked very hard and had some fantastic conversations with alumni.
