Panel Discussion – Does a woman have to behave like a man to succeed in this world?
Does a woman have to behave like a man to succeed in this world?
Lady Arden, the Rt Hon the Lord Willetts, Anya Hindmarch, Cindy Gallop and Sacha Romanovitch are joining us at Somerville on Friday, May 17 to discuss this question.
The discussion marks the 40th anniversary of Margaret Thatcher’s election as Prime Minister on the 17th May. The anniversary of this landmark event coincides with the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act that first allowed women to enter the professions. We would like to explore how far the political, professional and cultural environment has changed for women since then.
The panel will be moderated by the Principal, Baroness Royall of Blaisdon, and will consist of:
Lady Arden, the most recent appointee to the Supreme Court
The Rt Hon. the Lord Willetts, Executive Chair of the Resolution Foundation
Ms Anya Hindmarch, designer and businesswoman
Ms Cindy Gallop, (English, 1977) former chair of Bartle Bogle Hegarty US, campaigner and founder of MakeLoveNotPorn
Ms Sacha Romanovitch, (Chemistry, 1986) former CEO of Grant Thornton and the first, and to date only, woman to have risen to the top of a major British accounting firm
Date: Friday 17th May
Time: 5.30pm followed by a drinks reception
Place: Flora Anderson Hall, Somerville College
