Sarah & Ian

Ian and I met at Somerville in 1995.  He was in his second year (and boat club captain) and I was in my first year.

We got together in Hilary term 1996 (21 years ago, gulp!) and went inter-railing together that Summer.  Ian left Somerville to work for Nestle in 1997, and I left in 1998 to do my DPhil at Green college.  I remained in Oxford until 2003, and we spent every other weekend travelling up and down the M1 to visit each other, as Ian was mainly based in Yorkshire.

We got married in 2003 and moved to Leeds and then up to Newcastle in 2005.  We are still in Newcastle (Ian set up a recruitment business – Drayton Partners – and I work in mitochondrial genetics at Newcastle University) and now have three children; Isaac (9), Henry (7) and Bethan (3).  Life is busy but great – Newcastle is a brilliant place to bring up children and we feel very happy and settled here.
