Accommodation in College is guaranteed for all first-year and finalist undergraduates. First years are allocated a room in one of the accommodation blocks prior to arrival at the start of the academic year. The JCR organise a randomised room ballot to allocate rooms for finalists. Some second year students (and third years studying a four year course) choose to live out of College, sharing rented houses close to Somerville, but since the opening of the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter accommodation buildings opened in October 2011, many students can now stay in College throughout their courses.
For more information on undergraduate accommodation, please visit the JCR website.
We also have a limited number of rooms available for our graduate students. There are 27 rooms on site along with a College owned property on Woodstock Road which can house another 10 graduates. This year we have made an arrangement with the University Accommodation Office which means we can put forward 15 new graduate names for rooms arranged by them but which are located directly opposite the main College entrance on Woodstock Road and nearby in Wellington Square. We can now house most of our new first year graduate students every year with those who are unable to come to the UK to look for rooms before the start of term being given priority.
In addition, Somerville has the following facilities:
Heavily-subsidised meals are served in Hall (three meals per day on weekdays, and lunch at weekends). There are kitchens in each of the buildings, for students who prefer to self-cater.
