Living in College

 Accommodation

Accommodation in College is guaranteed for all first-year and finalist undergraduates. First years are allocated a room in one of the accommodation blocks prior to arrival at the start of the academic year. The JCR organise a randomised room ballot to allocate rooms for finalists. Some second year students (and third years studying a four year course) choose to live out of College, sharing rented houses close to Somerville, but since the opening of the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter accommodation buildings opened in October 2011, many students can now stay in College throughout their courses.

For more information on undergraduate accommodation, please visit the JCR website.

In addition, Somerville has the following facilities:

  • Laundry rooms in every building
  • Gym complete with treadmills, weights and rowing machines
  • Two music rooms and a grand piano in hall
  • JCR common rooms with computers, TVs, and games consoles
  • Dedicated computer rooms
  • A dark room and exhibition room
  • College bar with a large-screen TV and pool table

Meals

Heavily-subsidised meals are served in Hall (three meals per day on weekdays, and lunch at weekends). There are kitchens in each of the buildings, for students who prefer to self-cater.
