College advice on dealing with flu and flu-like symptoms

If you develop flu-like symptoms, which include a feverish illness accompanied by one or more of the following: cough, sore throat, headache and muscle aches, you should:

* Remain in your room; avoid social contact as far as possible.

* Do not go to the GPs' surgery or to a hospital, as you may spread the disease to others.

*Phone the lodge (70600) to let the College know that you are ill - we can then alert tutors and the College Doctor and put plans in place for support. If you have already contacted the Dean/Junior Deans to alert them, there is no need to do so again. If you need food, drink or medication you can contact the Lodge during the day, or the Junior Deans when they are on duty, so you don't need to leave your room.

Telephone the National Flu Pandemic Service (0800 1 513 100 or 0800 1 513 200 (textphone)), who should be able to tell you over the phone if you have swine flu and, if necessary, give you a unique number which will give you access to antivirals. The diagnosis will be based on your symptoms; laboratory testing is no longer being carried out.

Everyone should take care with general hygiene, hand washing frequently.
