Incorporating a degree

If you are beginning a course of study at Oxford and already hold a degree from the University of Cambridge or from Trinity College Dublin, you may be able to incorporate your Cambridge or Trinity degree. Incorporation is the process by which your Cambridge or Trinity degree is essentially converted into an Oxford degree.

For example. if you hold a BA from Cambridge or Trinity College Dublin, you would also acquire a BA from Oxford.

If you incorporate a degree, you do not need to matriculate at Oxford.

In order to incorporate, you must at the start of your course provide two documents to Somerville's Academic Office:

  1. degree certificate for your degree from Cambridge or Trinity College Dublin
  2. statement from Cambridge/Trinity, confirming terms' residence kept for your degree

The Academic Office will book you to have your degree incorporated in absence at an Oxford degree ceremony. You will be able to obtain a degree certificate for your Oxford degree. Once you have incorporated, you have the right to wear the gown and hood of the Oxford degree which has been incorporated.
