Accommodation and Housekeeping

Living within a College community is one of the special aspects of life at Oxford.

Somerville guarantees a room for all students in the first year of a course, and also accommodates as many others as possible, on the main College site and in a nearby house.

You will have a single study-bedroom – with an Internet and Ethernet connection – in one of a number of buildings. Bathroom and self-catering kitchen facilities are shared between a number of bedrooms.

We have wheelchair-accessible bedrooms and bathrooms, and appropriate fire alarms for those with hearing difficulties.

All buildings house both men and women, and some bathroom facilities are used both by men and women. Individual toilets and showers are always in private cubicles.

Some teaching rooms and staff offices are located in the same buildings as bedrooms.

Couples and families can apply for University accommodation through the University's Accommodation Office, which can also advise on other accommodation options.

If, for reasons such as health or religion, you need particular facilities, please contact the Bursary as soon as possible to let us know. The sooner we are aware of your needs, the better we will be able to support you.
